The 2023 U.S. Nightjar Network survey dates are here! Per your requests, new windows have been added so please review the changes and contact us with any questions. These dates are specifically chosen to coincide with the nights of brightest moonlight and greatest nightjar calling frequency. These are important dates to use so survey conditions are standardized across all regions of the Nightjar Survey Network. Contact nightjars@nightjars.org with questions.

Survey Dates

Surveys must only be conducted during these 2023 survey dates:

Window 1: FL, TX, and low elevation AZ* and NM: 28 Mar-13 April

Window 2: Southern US (MO and all areas south): 27 April-12 May

Window 3: Any location in the country: 27 May-10 June

Window 4: Areas north of AZ, FL, NM, and TX and high elevation areas in northern US: 26 June-9 July

Window 5: WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, Dakotas, MN: 25 July-31 July
